Trojans wrap up Titans, 62-18

The Sharon-Mutual Trojans, ranked 16 in the state, traveled to Yarbrough on Friday night to meet the Yarbrough-Keyes Titans.

The Titans fought the Trojans well on the turf, racking up 9 first downs to the Trojans 7, and 230 yards rushing in 58 attempts to the Trojans 37 for 233.

But, as in war, air superiority proved to be the decisive factor.

The Titans had two completions and three interceptions on 14 attempts for 66 yards through the air.

The Trojans completed 12 of 13, with no interceptions for 212 yards by air express. The Trojans had 245 yards combined offense compared to the Titans 296.

The Titans and Trojans each fumbled three times and each lost two.

The Titans had four penalties for 25 yards; and the Trojans five for 40.

In the first quarter, the Trojans' Clint Wilson punched through for a two yard TD, and Custer passed to Griffith for two more, it was 8-0, Trojans in the lead.

Quickly regaining the ball, Custer called his own number and ran nine yards for a TD and again connected with Griffith for two, it was 16-0.

The Titans, answered the touchdown with one of their own as Hector Arreola ran a quick three yards for a TD, the two point conversion was no good, it was Trojans 16, Titans 6.

The Trojans' Wilson punched on over from a yard out, and Custer dumped off a short pass to Custer for two, it was 24-6.

Upon regaining possession, Custer hit Cory Wheeler on the fly for a 30 yard TD pass, and Curt Hurly popped through from three yards out, it was 32-6 when the teams swapped goal posts.

The Titans QB, Logan Grazier called a keeper from one yard out and punched through for the Titans second TD, the try for two was no good, 32-12.

Custer and Wheeler hooked up again on a 54 yard TD pass, and two more made it 40-12.

Getting the ball back, Custer and Wheeler burned the Titans on a hand-off that went 76 yards. Custer took it in for two more, 48-12.

Custer and Wheeler came back for a third TD pass, for 55 yards, and Custer tagged on two, it was 56-12.

The Titans Gerardo Alvarado tossed a halfback pass to Nico Collins for the team's third and last score, the conversion attempt was no good, it was 56-18.

The Trojans came right back with a 54 yard run by Wheeler, on their kickoff, and due to the score, the game ended in the third quarter, 62-18
