Shadow Canyon host church camp

by Kelly Collins

Shadow Canyon Ranch owned by Jeff and Kim Gibson played host to a church camp. The camp is co-sponsored by the Eva Community Church of Eva Oklahoma and the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Guymon Oklahoma.

Earl Chiddix of the Eva Community Church is the director of the camp.

The camp was from July 22 to July 24.

Activities for the children were Drama class, bible study class, bible based scavenger hunt, crafts and a nature hike.

Friday night the Christian rock band Ephriam from Clinton Oklahoma performed.

There was a drawing on Friday night before services for a painting done on rock by Kim Gibson, the winner was Tom Strasner from felt. The raffle brought in around $700.00 and ensured that the camp was fully funded. Earl Chiddix said “It was a God thing as we were able to pay for everything right down to diesel with nothing left over.”

The 9 tenths of an inch of rain on Thursday night didn't dampen anyone's spirits. In fact they held church on the bus and 5 people were saved.

This is the fourth such camp. They call it Camp Restoration. Another church group had a camp and the children went away hurt spiritually, some to the point they didn't want to go to church again. Camp restoration was held to bring these children back in to a harmonious fellowship. It was supposed to be only the one camp but it turned into a yearly camp and welcomes all denominations. Earl Chiddix said, “it gets bigger and better every year.” This year there were 25 children and 17 adults involved. Earl also said “as soon as this is over I will start work on the next camp and start looking for a theme for the camp.”

The camp has been held in 4 different locations. The first was in Guymon at the Pentecostal Holiness Church. The second was at Lake Fryer near Perryton Texas. The third was held at Stinnett Texas.

Asked if he has located a place for next year's camp Earl said, “I really like this place right here.”
