To The Editor and Cimarron County Residents:
I was taken by surprise last Wednesday, when I heard that the Hospital Board of Trustees was not going to renew the contract of Dr. Mathews. I have heard a few things, but I cannot believe them. I do know that Dr. Mathews is an intelligent and caring Physician. I have been to many hospitals and doctors' offices in Amarillo and Oklahoma City , and most of those doctors see dollar signs when you go to see them. Dr. Mathews and Dr. Wheeler both show compassion and it is obvious that they care about the residents of our county. I had a big scare last week with my daughter. Dr. Mathews was on call and he took excellent care of her. He is very intelligent, as well as a fast thinker. He wanted to make sure she was ok. Dr. Mathews admitted her over night and that made me relax more. Do you know that before he left the hospital he came to her room twice to see about her, and then there was an early morning phone call just to check up on her status? That is so wonderful. If I were a betting man, I would bet that this is the only county that something like that would happen. We are told we are getting another doctor, and that he is coming soon to join us. I believe that 3 doctors in this county would be so great. We hopefully wouldn't have to spend so much money on the “Docs who care”; so think about all the money we would probably save. Right now we only have two doctors. They are not only on call every other day, but every other weekend as well. When a doctor is called to the ER, I believe that the CEO or a board member should be called to come in as well. There are times when the doctors are called well over four times a night. They do this because they care and we appreciate what they do for us.
I am encouraging everyone to attend the hospital board meeting on July 27, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Come show your support for Dr. Mathews!
Thank you for your time,
