Apply now for mailed run-off ballots

Cimarron County voters who wish to have absentee ballots mailed to them in time for the runoff primary election should apply now, according to Cimarron County Election Secretary Vicki Turner.

The Election Board can accept applications until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, Turner urged voters to apply early. Application forms are available at the county election board office in the Cimarron County Courthouse basement.

At least two transactions must be made. The election board must mail the ballots to the voter and they must be returned by mail. The ballots must be in the hands of the election board by 7 p.m. on election day in order to be counted.

Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot in any election in which he or she is eligible to vote. A reason or excuse is not necessary, but some are available, such as:

F Voters who are physically incapacitated, or those caring for an individual who is physically incapacitated. they may apply by mail, fax or telegraph

F Voters who are confined to a nursing home. The board will go to the facility and set up a polling place. These individuals may apply by mail, fax or telegraph.

F Military personnel and county residents living overseas and their spouses and dependents are eligible to vote absentee. They may apply by mail or fax. Military personnel should contact their voting service officers for applications and forms.

F Oklahoma residents living overseas may obtain the same materials from any U.S. military installation, or embassy or consulate.
