This past Saturday morning, I received a phone call informing me that Harold James, long time minister here in Cimarron County, had passed away. As the news of his death has been setting in, a number of thoughts have entered my mind. I would like to share a few of those thoughts with you.
First, I have thought of how much I know about Harold, even though I didn't know Harold that well personally. See, since I have been at Keyes I have talked to Harold in person just a few times and though each time was very pleasant that is not how I really got to know Harold. I learned the most about Harold by visiting with the residents of Cimarron County. It is amazing how everyone you meet knows Harold and each person has a unique story concerning him. Bro. James impacted many lives.
Second, I think about Harold's relationship with the Lord. Anyone who has heard even just a part of Harold's testimony can testify of how Harold truly knew the Lord. Harold would himself admit he was not perfect, however I truly believe he sought to live for the Lord. Harold faithfully preached the gospel and he served his Lord faithfully.
Third, I would like to share with you the very first thought that actually went through my mind when I was informed of Harold's death. I thought of this child of God that had just left this world and was being greeted by his Master Jesus Christ face to face. And how Harold was able to personally see Jesus' face. The emphasis is on the word see, because even though Harold had been blind for a number of years, the moment he left this world and entered heaven his eyesight was restored. And, the first thing I believe that Harold was able to see was Jesus. As this thought went through my head I smiled, finding my self in a non-sinful way jealous of Harold, because he was with Jesus.
As I thought about Harold seeing Jesus I thought of what Jesus might have said to Harold at that moment. Then God reminded me of His Word found in Matthew 25:21, “His master replied ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'”
