Stock show planned for spring, 2005

by Jim Spake

As the result of an April 1 meeting involving several Cimarron County residents, a Spring Jr. Livestock Show has been scheduled for March 3-4-5 2005.

The main objective of the Cimarron County Spring Livestock Show committee is to provide 4-H and FFA members of Cimarron County an opportunity to exhibit livestock projects at county, district, and state livestock shows back to back during the month of March.

The group was informed of the many scholarship opportunities which are available to youth who participate in the Oklahoma Spring Livestock Youth Expo in Oklahoma City held the third week of March.

Individuals who have volunteered to serve on the board of the Spring Stock Show committee include; Lon Davis, Chairman; Rick Brakhage, Vice Chair; David Prather, Treasurer; and Steve Kraich and Jim Spake as at-large members.

Classes are being planned for market swine, sheep, goats, beef and breeding beef heifers.

Superintendents include; Beef, Larry Taylor; Swine, Brent Trantham; Sheep, Royce White; and Goats, Frank Neatherlin.

This committee is scheduled to meet again April 15 at 7 pm in the Boise City High School Ag room to make further plans for the show.

Parents of exhibitors or other individuals who would be willing to assist in this county youth project are encouraged to attend.

Parents and Jr. exhibitors may also wish to access the Oklahoma Spring Youth Expo website to explore the many opportunities for livestock youth at www.okyouthexpo.com.
