Plainview School News

Plainview students, Colby Welch and Daisy Ruvalcaba, were honored on Saturday, March 5, as Spelling Bee Champions from Cimarron County.

They both attended the luncheon held at West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas at the Alumni Banquet Facility. About 240 spellers and their friends and family enjoyed the beautiful Hazel Kelley Wilson Banquet Hall in the banquet building. Besides having a delicious meal, both Colby and Daisy were recognized and presented a dictionary and other prizes from the Amarillo Globe-News and saw their pictures in the Saturday edition of the Amarillo newspaper.

Following the meal, the spellers went to the new campus of Canyon High School.

As a junior speller winner, Colby couldn't participate in the Regional Spelling Bee, but since Daisy was the senior speller winner from Cimarron County, she competed in the Bee. Spellers from 31 counties from the Oklahoma Panhandle, Western Oklahoma, Southern Kansas, and the Texas Panhandle graced the stage of the High School auditorium. Although a speller from Potter County won, Daisy represented Plainview School and Cimarron County very well in the competition.

Plainview is very proud of Colby and Daisy and congratulate them for their accomplishments as Cimarron County Speller Bee winners.
