Absentee voters face deadline

Cimarron County voters who wish to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the Keyes School runoff election should apply now, according to Election Secretary Vicki Turner.

Although the election board can accept applications until 5 p.m. , Wednesday, March 29, Turner urges voters to apply early. Application forms are available at the Cimarron County election Board office in the basement of the courthouse.

Any registered voter may vote by absentee in any election in which they are eligible to vote.

No reason or excuse is necessary, but some excuses are provided including voters who are physically incapacitated, or those who care for the physically incapacitated, or those who cannot be left unattended. These individuals must apply by mail, fax, or telegraph.

Voters confined by nursing homes; a voting board will go to the home a few days prior to the election to establish a polling place. They may apply by mail or fax.

Military personnel and residents of the county living overseas and their spouses and dependents; they can apply by mail or fax, and should contact their voting service officers for applications and information.

Residents living overseas may obtain the same materials from any military installation and from the U.S. Embassies and consulates.

At least two transactions must be made; the election board must mail the ballots and they must return the completed ballot by mail by 7 p.m.April 4.
