Students from the Five State area recently auditioned for the Five States Honor Band in Guymon

Drew Faulkner of Boise City was selected as second chair French Horn in the Junior High School Band.

Five State Honor Band is made up of high school and junior high school music students from Southwestern Kansas , Southeastern Colorado , Northeastern New Mexico and the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles. There are two bands, a junior high school and a high school band. Students audition in November and after being selected, receive music that they are required to prepare on their own with the assistance of their band director. Then in December, they gather together for a day of rehearsal under the direction of a guest conductor. That evening they put on a concert which completes the event.

This past Five State Honor Band concert took place December 9, 2005 at Guymon High School . Mr. Fred Pankratz, a long time and highly respected conductor who has recently retired after twenty-nine years of service in Canadian Texas, was the guest clinician for the junior high school band

Participating schools this year included Beaver, Boise City , Guymon, Hooker, Texhoma and Turpin from Oklahoma ; Booker, Boys Ranch, Dalhart, Perryton, Pringle/Morse, Spearman, Sunray and Vega from Texas ; and Liberal and Elkhart from Kansas .

This year Five State Honor Band celebrated its 29th year as a musical opportunity for Five States area students.
