Collision kills two near Felt Sunday

Two Clayton , N.M. residents, James and Gayleen Perkins, died Sunday morning as the result of a head on collision on Highway 56, near Felt.
James K. Perkins, the driver of an eastbound 1990 Nissan passenger car was declared dead at the scene; his wife, Gayleen, 50, a passenger in the Nissan, was transferred to Cimarron Memorial Hospital in Boise City , where she was declared dead on arrival.
According to Erik Terrell, the investigating Oklahoma Highway Patrol Officer, a westbound 1998 Ford pickup, driven by Ricardo N. Martinez, 23, of Waukegan , Ill. , crossed left of center and struck the Perkins vehicle head on.
Martinez was transferred to Union County New Mexico's hospital with head, leg and internal trunk injuries; he is listed in stable condition.
Guillermo Sanchez, 23, of San Jose , Calif. , one of two passengers in the pickup, was transferred to Union County New Mexico's hospital with head, leg and external injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The second passenger, Solomon Evans, 25, of Homestead , Fla. , was also transferred to Union County New Mexico's hospital and is listed in critical condition.
According to Terrell, seatbelts were in use in both vehicles. The highway was snow covered and slushy.
