I am still traveling. I took Amtrak from Newport News Virginia to Meridian,
Connecticut.
The train goes through the bad sections of town; the junkyards; the
industrial sections, and the slums.
In Washington D.C. I expected something different. This is the house
of our government. But, the trash was there also.
Within two blocks of the Senate and Congressional office buildings
there was the ordinary corruption of any other city. The junked autos,
the wine and beer bottles.
It struck me that the City of D.C. was doing the same thing the government
was doing. Keeping the front clean, and pushing the corruption out of
sight.
In some places there were trees between the buildings and the piles
of garbage I saw.
Our government is doing the same.
Out front every thing is nice, clean and showing off its best side;
while behind the screen of trees, is its corruption.
To quote, Power Corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
For some time now the move has been to take the power of this nation
out of the hands of WE the People and put it in the hands
of government on every level.
The Patriot Act gives the government powers that are being challenged
by the ACLU.
I learned this when I was up in arms about the ACLU.
In the 1950s, the House Un-American Activities Committee was doing
things to personal freedoms that was clearly unconstitutional; and we
saw how long that took to be eradicated.
The Patriot Act and its Enhancement bill have given the Homeland Security
Agency powers that are clearly unconstitutional.
How much damage will it do before its powers are checked?
I encourage you to read 1984 by George Orwell.
Then read the speeches of George Bush, and the Patriot act for yourself.
It will chill you to the bone.
Where do we go from here? I honestly dont know.
What do you think?
