A 38-19 loss to the Mooreland Bearcats ends Boise City Wildcats 2004 season

The Boise City Wildcats ended their season and district play with a 38-19 loss to Mooreland on Friday night.

The ‘Cats took the lead early on a 37-yard gallop by Tyler Baird, Chase Loyd's kick was good and with 9:18 left on the clock in the first quarter, the ‘Cats led 7- zip.

 

The remainder of the first quarter was scoreless as the Wildcats and Mooreland's Bearcats played a defensive battle. However, with 1:37 left on the clock in the first half, the Bearcats scored on a five yard run by Fletcher Jaquez; topped off by a Jaquez kick, the teams were tied 7-7, until only four seconds remained on the clock, Jaquez's talented toe added three with a 32-yard field goal, and Mooreland went to their bus with a 10-7 halftime lead.

The Bearcats came roaring back after the halftime break and in two plays after kickoff, Jaquez, with a little help from his friends scored again on a 15 yard scamper, his kick was good and the ‘Cats quickly found themselves behind 17-7.

With just over two minutes left in the third Jaquez, apparently the Bearcats one-man show, scored from eight yards out and added the PAT, it was 24-7.

 

On the ensuing kickoff, the Wildcats' speedster, Josh Bass, from Felt, took the ball and tore 88 yards for a TD, a pass attempt for two failed, it was 24-13 going into the fourth and the ‘Cats looked to be within reach.

In the fourth, the Bearcats and Jaquez demonstrated yet two more dimensions to their offensive arsenal, when with 9:21 left on the clock Kyle Ross went in from 10 yards out, and with the PAT, it was 31-13, Bearcats.

Less than five minutes later, the Bearcats Brett Thomas went in from one yard out, Jaquez kicked the PAT and it was 38-13.

The ‘Cats scored their final TD with senior chase Loyd ripping off 34 yards, the attempt for two failed and the game ended 38-19.

Mooreland had 23 first downs to the ‘Cats 9; Mooreland racked 329 yards rushing to the ‘Cats 202.

 

The ‘Cats had 25 yards in the air, the Bearcats, 17, for a total of 346 yards by Mooreland and 227 by the Wildcats.

The Wildcats had three pass attempts with two completions and no interceptions. The Bearcats passed four times, with one completion.

The Wildcats punted once for 39 yards; the Bearcats once for 35.

Each team fumbled once and lost possession.

The Wildcats had five penalties for 60 yards, the Bearcats, four for 26.
