Cardinals flog Wildcats, 40-14
The Boise City Wildcats, held the state-ranked Turpin Cardinals scoreless through most of the first quarter on Friday night. With 1:56 left on the clock, Turpin's Mark Peters ran in from one yard out; the kick attempt failed and Turpin, ranked third in the state led by only six as the teams traded end zones.
The second quarter was young, with less than three minutes gone when Cardinal Kyle Young scampered 44 yards for the second TD, the attempt for two failed and the Cardinals led 12-zip.
Just over four minutes later Young's number came up again with a 17 yard run, kick failed, 18-0.
With 3:18 left before the half, a bad snap sent the ball out of the Wildcat end zone for a safety, 20-0 Cardinals lead.
With 2:23 left in the first half, Young took it in from 17 yards out, pass failed, 26-0 when the half-time buzzer went off.
The Cardinals came out running in the third quarter and with just 3:15 gone, Peters scored from three yards out; the PAT on a pass from Zack Nelson, 34-0.
With 7:11 left in the fourth quarter, Turpin's Justin Plunk scored the last Cardinal points on a 56-yard run; the kick failed, 40-0.
The fourth quarter was all Wildcats as Tyler Baird scored with a mere 1:31 off the clock. The pass for two failed, 40-6.
With 4:26 on the clock, Baird made a five-yard run for a TD; Jason Montgomery scooped up a Chase Loyd pass for two and the game ended 40-14.
The Cardinals racked up 23 first downs to Boise City's 12.
Turpin racked up 356 yards total yards rushing to 186 on the ground for the Wildcats.
The Cardinals passed for 155 yards, Wildcats, 25, for a total offense by Turpin of 511 to 211 from the Wildcats.
Boise City completed two of seven passes with two interceptions; Turpin, seven of nine.
The Wildcats, punted four times for an average of 29 yards; Turpin, two for 29.
The Wildcats had nine fumbles and recovered them all; Turpin once and lost the ball.
The Wildcats had one penalty for five yards; the Cardinals, one for two yards.
Cat Cross Country improves times
The Wildcat Cross-Country team traveled to Stillwater for the OSU Jamboree.
The OSU meet is always huge and an awesome experience.
Our boys handled themselves well in the big meet atmosphere.
Dustin improved on his time by a minute from last year and moved up 47 places.
Jose and Tavis are struggling with knee injuries and we are missing Reuben Bocock and Denise Hernandez; but we'll have everyone back for regionals.
The 3.1 mile course was difficult, short sharp hills, stairs, grass and wood chips.
The 2.0 mile course was rolling, with short inclines.
